A school in New Zealand is on the defensive this week after it hosted a best-dressed dead opossum competition.
Photos from Tuesdayâs competition at the Uruti School show a skinned opossum dressed as a boxer, some in baby clothes, and two relaxing on mini beach towels.
Uruti School principal Pauline Sutton says feedback has all been positive: âWhen people die, donât we dress them up?â
SPCA spokeswoman Jackie Poles-Smith begs to differ.
The SPCAâs focus is on teaching children respect and empathy for animals and they didnât do that. Animals deserve respect even after death.
