Just a note: LADY GAGA, as we know her, is in truth, a joint venture among Iovine, Universal Music CEO Doug Morris, and Sony/ATV publishing head Marty Bandier.
She has a 360 deal with Interscope, which, basically, means that they get a piece of EVERYTHING she does. They own her.
For this to work, she needs monster hits (no pun intended). She doesn't own her publishing, so it means that her main income is from sales, and touring.
At the moment, her comeback is on par with a big successful indie release, NOT what they need from her.
Her biggest hits were co-written with RedOne. Just Dance, Pokerface etc. And Rob Fusari, who got her the deal in the first place. He sued her for 30 million dollars. And Wendy Starland who discovered her to begin with, who also got zip.
No one of her original team is there now - her management may be great at merchandizing, but they know zilch about how to keep developing an artist. LaurieAnn Gibson developed her original choreography. Nicola Formichetti was the stylist. Perez was the cheerleader. None of those people are present anymore and there is a lot of bad blood left behind. Mind you, this happens all the time, and it can only be washed away by sweet success
Which is not happening.
Regarding Edge of Glory: Gaga lost it on set and decided to do it her way. A lot of those ideas were recycled in You and I later. She sent most of the crew home, including the director.
