I wish people would stop calling this technique "three person babies" and implying it's an lgbt issue. It's designed to enable people with mitochondrial mutations to have healthy children with the aid of an egg donor. The resulting child has no physical characteristics resembling the additional 'parent'. Mitochondrial DNA (which is the DNA that the third 'parent' provides) is separate to what we usually think of as DNA (the genome) and only makes up ~0.1% of the DNA in the human body.
