Conus uses digital microscopes in order to scan the naturally occurring cellular automata of the mollusk shells. The shells, much like a record, rotate on their own individual discs in order to be scanned. The results are sent to an algorithm which translates the data into audio and video. http://www.geek.com/news/disturbing-live-music-and-video-generated-from-mollusk-shells-1569691/
