02 Rosalía: “Di Mi Nombre”
Director: Henry Scholfield
Spanish singer Rosalía has been everywhere at once in her recent videos: She’s danced in shipping containers, played the bull in a surreal motorcycle bullfight, and found herself in eerie parking garages surrounded by men bearing guns, knives, and bats. So while it's initially surprising that the video for “Di Mi Nombre” is contained to one set, it must be noted that director Henry Scholfield (“New Rules”) stretches that space into a vast emotional playground. Filmed in almost one complete take, “Di Mi Nombre” opens with Rosalía stretched atop an ornate bed, à la Francisco Goya’s The Maja. As she sings of her unwavering devotion to a lover, she dances through the house alongside a mysterious troupe and ends up back where she started, in bed. Writhing spectacularly on the cheap satin and velvet bedding, she looks like a woman possessed by her own passion. Rosalía’s world-building knows no bounds, even when the means are seemingly meager.
