Grindr’s Madonna Takeover Has a Hidden Card: A Celebrity Quiz Video — And M Just Named Her Best-Ever Lover
When Madonna “took over the grid” back in April, we knew the Grindr partnership for Confessions II was more than a vinyl drop. The press release was explicit: Grindr was “just getting started,” promising exclusive content that would extend across the app and the brand’s socials. We’ve covered the picture disc, the location-aware moments in the Global Gayborhood, the “Hi Grindr, it’s Motha” message popping up on every user’s grid. What we didn’t know was that the package included a full celebrity quiz video — and that’s the piece now surfacing.
Page Six got hold of the video ahead of its release, and the format is exactly the kind of thing you’d want from a Madonna-meets-queer-culture collab. M sits down with a genuinely interesting roster: playwright Jeremy O. Harris, Bob the Drag Queen, dancer Ivy Mugler, Luar designer Raul Lopez, and i-D’s Marcello Gutierrez, who lob questions at her. It’ll live on Grindr’s in-app media hub, “Grindr Presents,” and on the brand’s YouTube and Instagram.
Now, the headline-grabbing bit. Asked to name her best-ever lover, Madonna said she’d only rank the dead ones — then covered her mouth and whispered “John Kennedy Jr.,” prompting a deafening chorus of “Shut upppppppp!” from the room. Raul Lopez added, for context, that everyone says JFK Jr. was, shall we say, very well regarded in that department. Madonna’s response: a satisfied “Mmm hmm.”
For the record, the two are reported to have briefly dated in the late ‘80s — and the moment has a bit of history behind it. The two were photographed together at a Las Vegas event in 1997, pictured here.
