Taylor Swift ha sido la gran ganadora de los MTV Video Music Awards. Exactamente como el año pasado, Swift es la artista nominada que más premios se ha llevado, en concreto nueve, entre ellos el más importante, el de Vídeo del año, por ‘Anti-Hero’. El premio a la Mejor canción pop, también por ‘Anti-Hero’, se lo entregado *N SYNC, que se han reunido para la ocasión y parece que traman algún tipo de regreso.
Aunque parece que Taylor Swift se ha llevado absolutamente todos los premios (estaba nominada en 11 categorías), ha habido otros afortunados: Shakira y Karol G se han agenciado el premio a Mejor colaboración, Ice Spice a Artista revelación, Måneskin a la Mejor canción de rock o Rema y Selena Gomez a la Mejor canción de afrobeat. Como curiosidad, ha habido un premio para Lana Del Rey, el de Mejor canción alternativa por ‘Candy Necklace’.
La otra gran protagonista de la noche ha sido Shakira, que ha recibido el MTV Vanguard Award. Shakira ha repasado su carrera con una actuación épica de 10 minutos en la que han cabido contorsiones en ‘She Wolf’, belly dancing y cuchillos en ‘Objection (Tango)’, fuego en ‘TQG’, tambores tribales y el final apoteósico de su colaboración con Bizarrap.
El escenario del Prudential Center de Newark, Nueva Jersey, ha acogido otras actuaciones destacadas en los VMA’s de este año. Doja Cat se ha comido el escenario presentando sus tres singles de 2023, ‘Attention’, ‘Paint the Town Red’ y ‘Demons’ acompañada de bailarinas «pintadas de rojo». Olivia Rodrigo ha recreado el vídeo de ‘vampire’ y ha estrenado ‘get him back’. Nicki Minaj ha cantado ‘Last Time I Saw You’ y estrenado ‘Big Difference’. Y Cardi B y Megan Thee Stallion han puesto patas arriba el escenario con ‘Bongos‘.
Por el escenario de los VMA’s también han pasado Måneskin, que han presentado su reciente single, ‘HONEY‘: Karol G, Sabrina Carpenter, el ganador del premio Global Icon Diddy, la «funk rave» de Anitta, el rock de Fall Out Boy y Demi Lovato (por separado), Peso Pluma, la colaboración de Metro Boomin con Future, A Boogie with da Hoodie, Nav y Swae Lee y el grupo surcoreano Stray Kids. La gala se ha cerrado con un homenaje al hip-hop por su 50º aniversario en el que han participado Nicki Minaj o Lil Wayne, entre otros.
