Robert From E! Interviews Gaga "In a very formal gown, Gaga walks in with grace and mystery as she sits down with me to talk about life, love, her passion for music, the new album, and the new tour. Q: I’m going to start out blunt…unlike alot of interviews…..where do you believe you are at in your career at the moment?
A: Well…….that isn’t a blunt question. That’s very honest of you. But, (she pauses and thinks) to be fair I don’t know where I am at for the first time in a long time…and I’m okay with that. I know alot of people around me would say certain things about my career, but I feel like that is very subjective. I’m here for my fans.
Q: You are?
A: Well of course I am! I am always an ear shot away. I pay attention to them more than they think. Just because I don’t respond doesn’t mean I’m not listening. I’m listening because it is what I need to do right now.
Q: Listening? What are you listening to, exactly?
A: I’m listening to culture. Before Artpop I kind of gave up on listening to culture….I wanted to create a very irresponsible record that didn’t really care about what the world had to say. I wanted to make music that came from my fury…my anger. I wanted a record that was digging it’s nails into the mountain side violently…but it’s always to find love.
Q: You say that you had anger? Where did that come from?
A: It came from alot of different places. It came from the tour ending so abruptly….it came from a guilt that I let down my fans….it came-
Q: You let down your fans?
A: Let me finish……..I had just come down on myself so hard. Physically. Emotionally. It was painful. I wanted to be strong for a group of people that have come together for me. I owe that to them. They are the reason I am here. And at times it scares me that I will never be able to give them what they want….I guess…..I don’t feel like I have failed…..but more that I have failed them.
Q: It sounds like your fans have high standards.
A: That is a good thing.
Q: So you kind of took this hiatus and then followed up with Artpop. Are you happy with it’s success?
A: To be completely honest, no. I am not happy that people aren’t understanding this as much as I thought they would. I worked really really hard on this record. I became vulnerable for this record. Its amazing to me that some people still insist on tearing it apart. To me, Artpop is not just a record but a movement, an honest passion. I feel like she is still a little baby. It would be fraudulent of me to say I don’t care what people think of it…which has kind of been the momentum behind the next record. It’s been chaotic yet fulfilling. I think the next record will show my strength again…not to hype it up or anything.
Q: Is your next record done? Are you saying it’s coming soon?

Q: So you’ve been working on it lately, then?
A: I don’t want to give away too much…but yeah. I just wrapped up with the producers and we are incredibly proud. Its a record that was always meant to be the naughty sister to Artpop.
Q: So it is related to your last effort?
A: It’s the second act.

Q: So….considering we are talking about a new album. Does this mean that Artpop is finished?
A: Not at all. Like I said, Artpop is a movement. I will be making Artpop for a while now. It is what I am. There is a family of records there and we’ve just met the daughter. Its something that I’ve been working on for years now. I think alot of people thought I took two years to write a fifteen track record when really I’ve written….oh gosh…perhaps now 300 Artpop songs.
Q: 300? Thats alot!
A: Yes it is. But many of the songs will be introduced on the application I’ve created for Artpop. Many songs will be introduced through new mediums of technology in the coming years. My goal is to put everything on the app before I am done with Artpop.
Q: So here is a question that I think is worth asking….and since we were discussing where you are in your career I think it’s worth asking: You are far enough into your career to have influenced others, do you feel like you have influenced anyone who is younger than you?
A: I think everybody is influencing everything. But to be more direct, I do think I have had an impact on culture that I can look back on and be proud of. But it certainly doesn’t mean I feel like I’ve done what I needed to do so I’m finished. I still feel like it is the beginning for me.
Q: I agree. I think people have underestimated you.
A: You never know what I’m going to pull out of the old handbag. (She winks as she pats her bag.)
