"That Rihanna reign just won’t let up. The pop superstar has scored her 26th top 10 single with “FourFiveSeconds.”
The acoustic song featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney jumps 15-6 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, propelled by the music video and the trio’s performance at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday."
Paul McCartney at 72 is the oldest person to score a number one single in Australia.
The ex-Beatle was last at No. 1 here in 1977 with Mull of Kintyre, which spent 11 weeks on top.
The feat has broken a rash of ARIA chart records, including the biggest gap between No. 1 hits.
Chart statistician Gavin Ryan reports that at age 72 McCartney beats the age record held by Cher, who was 52 when Believe made No. 1 in 1999.
McCartney now holds the record for the longest gap between first and last No. 1 singles in Australia.
McCartney first hit No. 1 here as a solo act in May 1971 with Another Day, and 43 years, eight months and two weeks later has another Australian chart topper.
That beats the record previously held by Elvis Presley who had exactly 43 years between his first Australian No. 1, A Fool Such as I, in 1959 and the remix A Little Less Conversation, which hit the top in 2002.
FourFiveSeconds is also Rihanna’s ninth No. 1 single in Australia, closing in on Kylie Minogue (10 No. 1s) and Madonna (11 chart toppers).
