‘Sex On Fire’ no impresionaba mucho de entrada, pero el disco de Kings Of Leon ha arrasado en ventas, despachando 2,5 millones de copias en pocos meses, y el grupo actúa este fin de semana en España (sábado 14 en Barcelona, domingo 15 en Madrid) con al menos un “sold-out” (el concierto de La Riviera ha pasado al enorme Palacio Vistalegre por lo que ya sabéis). En los clubs pinchan el single y da bastante subidón, así que mejor un “si no puedes con el enemigo, únete a él” que amargarse criticando.
Cuando Pitchfork habló de ‘Only By The Night’, que puntuó con un triste 3,8, decía con acierto que Kings Of Leon habían pasado de ser los “Strokes sureños” a ser los “U2 sureños”. Estamos, una vez más, ante un problema de expectativas. Si sabes que te vas a enfrentar a un disco “arena rock” y no a un álbum con tan buenas ideas como, pongamos, el último de TV On The Radio, no lo pasarás tan mal.
Los chicos de Caleb Followill se lo han puesto fácil a los críticos para que los pongan a parir. Las letras parecen adolescentes y los ecos a las voces en canciones como ‘Revelry’ o las campanas de ’17′ no son lo más imaginativo que ha vivido el rock reciente. Sin embargo, ‘Only By The Night’ es un disco de pop bastante disfrutable si se asume como tal. En la revista Q se lo han pasado pipa con él, probablemente porque detrás de cada mala idea en él viene una buena (de ‘Revelry’ y ’17′ molan algunos giros) y al fin y al cabo ‘Sex On Fire’ es un “grower”, ‘Closer’ abre el disco creando bastante interés al mezclar electrónica y guitarras y los sonidos crudos y distorsiones de ‘Crawl’ para nada están tan mal.

A mí me parece un buen disco de rock clásico, no creo que tengan ninguna pretensión de innovar o renovar nada. Es un disco muy americano, eso sí.
El segundo single, “Use somebody”, se está escuchando bastante, no? A mí me gusta, aunque a veces me recuerda a lo mejor/peor de Nickelback…
Menuda tonteria..Si solo te diesen mierda de comer, te la terminarias comiendo, supongo que no…Entonces para que escuchar a Kings Of Leon habiendo tan buenos disco por todos los lados?

Yo creo que eso hay que dejar un lado las enormes expectativas a veces, y tampoco dejarse llevar por absolutamente todo lo que dice Pitchfork, el disco no es ninguna genialidad pero no está mal, y eso es bastante más de lo que se puede decir de otros muchos.
Fluorescent, estoy contigo. Sinceramente yo me he bajado el disco porque había leído sobre el, ni mal ni bien, pero me parece un buen disco. Muchas veces una banda no tiene porqué innovar constantemente, o experimentar. Es un disco sencillito, aparentemente sin pretensiones y desde luego no es impecable, pero está muy bien. Yo llevo unos tres días enganchado a Closer y Sex on Fire, me parecen muy buenas.
o estoy muy de acuerdo con ace76, nunca os ha gustado KoL, no se en que se pueden basar para crear expectativas, cada grupo es diferente y cada album tb debería ser diferente no como esos grupos que sacan 7 albums iguales y siguen alabandoles por ello. En cuanto a lo del “sold out”, también pesa su anterior discografía, pero el disco este es bastante uniforme, que no llega a notable, pero bastante compacto en su sonido. Y a mí también me sorprendieron bastante sus cifras de ventas, teniendo en cuenta que posiblemente sea su disco menos inspirado, pero está claro que llega en su mejor momento, y se están despegando como unos claros cabezas de cartel para los festivales, así que a nivel repercusión, los singles como “Sex on fire” o “Use somebody” -que no paran de ponerlo en la MTV2 británica- le han venido fantásticos.
El disco, un 6, pero decepciona menos que tropecientas novedades que salen cada año.

La verdad es que nunca me interesó KOL desde sus comienzos, cuando rotaban por el 2003 en la TV, pero me interesé al ver lo exitoso que se tornó el último disco, y sinceramente me terminó encantando el album. No es original ni nada, pero es sumamente adictivo y entretenido…lo cual no está tan mal.

Sí, número 1 en Q y en Clash, y en el top 10 de otras tres revistas, lo cual le situa como uno de los discos mejor valorados del 2008. Y que conste que a mi no me encanta támpoco.
