Prince ha muerto esta mañana (hora local) en su finca Paisley Park en Minneapolis. La noticia, totalmente inesperada dada la joven edad del músico, 57 años, ha sido un jarro de agua fría para el mundo de la música, que naturalmente llora hoy la marcha de uno de sus músicos más influyentes. Estos son algunos de los artistas que han querido recordar al artista hoy, entre ellos Miguel, Missy Elliott, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Brian Wilson de The Beach Boys, Lionel Richie, Questlove, HAIM, Neko Case, Goldfrapp o Chvrches. The Weeknd y MGMT dejaban algunos de los mensajes más bonitos. Frank Ocean ha compartido un emotivo mensaje en Tumblr en el que dice que ni siquiera va a decir «descanse en paz» porque esto es «más grande que la muerte». Ha señalado ‘When You Were Mine’ como su canción favorita de todos los tiempos y ha hablado sobre cómo el look de Prince le hizo sentirse mucho más cómodo con su sexualidad.
La ex mujer de Prince Mayte Garcia, con la que estuvo casado entre 1996 y 2000, y con la que tuvo un hijo que falleció a la semana de nacer a causa del Síndrome de Pfeiffer, ha declarado: «No puedo ni describir lo que siento con palabras. Este hombre fue todo para mí, tuvimos una familia. Estoy más que triste y devastada. Le quise mucho, le quiero ahora y le querré eternamente. Ahora, está con nuestro hijo». La hermana de Prince, Tyka Nelson, en las afueras de Paisley Park, ha agradecido a los fans: «Os quería a todos. Gracias por quererle también».
