Era bastante de esperar que Taylor Swift acabara superando en galardones a una leyenda como Michael Jackson en la historia de los American Music Awards. Pero quizá no tanto que lo hiciera de una manera tan holgada y rotunda: porque no solo ha sobrepasado las 24 estatuillas del Rey del Pop sino que destrozó ese record ganando las 5 nominaciones a las que optaba –Artista del año, Artista femenina del año, Artista femenina de “adulto contemporáneo”, Mejor vídeo por ‘You Need to Calm Down’ y Mejor álbum de pop rock por ‘Lover‘–. Y además, obtuvo un premio especial: en la gala de los AMAs 2019 celebrada anoche fue laureada como Artista de la Década, recibiendo tal honor de manos de su referente Carole King. Y, de hecho, la impresión es que toda la gala fue, teniendo también en cuenta también los invitados y el resto de premiados, un completo homenaje a la artista.

Estos premios llegaban para Swift en una semana en la que había sido el epicentro de la actualidad, además, por las acusaciones hacia Scooter Braun y Scott Borchetta por no permitirle tocar en directo su viejo material. Finalmente pudo hacerlo: luciendo –como sus ocho niñas bailarinas– una camisa en la que se leían impresos los títulos de aquellos viejos álbumes publicados con su ex-discográfica, interpretó un medley que incluyó ‘Love Story’ de ‘Fearless’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ de ‘Red’, ‘Blank Space’ y ‘Shake It Off’ de 1989. En esta última se sumaron a ella en escena Halsey y Camila Cabello. También hizo una interpretación, sola al piano y con bailarines, del bonito tema que da nombre a su también premiado último disco.

Otros premiados significativos de la noche fueron Billie Eilish, que logró dos pirámides –Mejor nueva artista, y Artista de rock alternativo favorita–, Khalid, Halsey, Lil Nas X, Cardi B, BTS –los coreanos se hicieron con tres estatuillas, incluida la mejor gira superando a Ariana Grande, que estando nominada a las principales categorías se fue de vacío, y Elton John–, Post Malone –mejor álbum de rap por ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding‘–, J Balvin, Kane Brown, Carrie Underwood o Dan+ Shay.

Entre las actuaciones, Shawn Mendes y Camila Cabello presentaron la elegida como Mejor colaboración, ‘Señorita‘, y también subieron al escenario Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez –cuya voz, aseguran sus fans, sonó distinto en televisión y en el anfiteatro–, Post Malone, Lizzo, Green Day, Shania Twain, Toni Braxton, Post Malone con Ozzy Osbourne y Travis Scott –iconic trío–, Christina Aguilera y A Great Big World y, por supuesto, la conductora de la gala, Ciara. Os dejamos con el palmarés completo y algunas de las actuaciones que se han ido subiendo al fin a Youtube, como es el caso de Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Christina Aguilera, Camila Cabello, Lizzo o Kesha. Entre los rezagados, Post Malone o Selena Gomez.
